Stray shot kills MOM
Slain getting food for her four kids
Police believe the gunman was targeting a young man standing near Diaz. He was grazed by a bullet. The wounded man, who showed up for treatment at Jacobi Medical Center shortly after the shooting, has refused to cooperate with investigators, police sources said.
He has been arrested six times, mostly on drug charges, but doesn’t have any gang affiliations, the police sources said.
Rosario, who lives in Brooklyn, did not learn about his ex-girlfriend’s death until well after midnight.
When he realized he missed a call from Diaz’s sister, he reached out, and was given the horrible news. He immediately raced to the Bronx to be with his children, he said.
“We cried all night, huddling,” he recalled, tearing up.
